Mother & Child - Norway

Tonight, I took a bit of a trip down memory lane, when I was asked about some of the most memorable places I had been on my travels. One of my favorite places is the Vigelund Sculpture Garden in Oslo, Norway. It is filled with some of the most breathtaking sculptures by my favorite sculptor, Gustav Vigelund. There are 212 in total, including this one.

This original Polaroid transfer is available for purchase here.

Happy Dance

This week, I seem to be catching up on all the things I have been meaning to post about on this blog, and this one, and this one. It is good to have a week like that. Especially, since I have been creating a lot of new work this week, as well as putting together several submissions. I am not ready to show most of these on my blog yet, but keep coming back, as they will be starting to appear. After I get done catching up on all these languishing post ideas from the past month or so.

One day, several weeks ago, I opened and Etsy convo and did a happy dance. A previous customer, whom I have had great communications with, was hoping I could fill some image needs for her business. She has already bought my Polaroid transfer, Bloom, seen above. And I had given her permission to use it on her business card. She is a doula, which is something I am familiar with since my very best friend was my doula during my daughter's natural birth. The DONA (Doulas of North America) website defines doula as, "a woman experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth." (Klaus, Kennell and Klaus, Mothering the Mother). She has named her business Bloom, so she loved the image. You can read more about this initial meeting in my blog post here.

As I was saying, this woman (whose business I am happy to link here once her website is up and running and I get her permission), and I have had pleasant conversations via Etsy. I am currently pregnant, and she was was truly interested in hearing about when my babe is born. She had mentioned that she might be back to my shop for more images. Well, she was not kidding...

She ordered this:

And this:

And this:

Fragile by Tiffany Teske

AND this:

Bouquet 2 by Tiffany Teske

AND THIS:

Bound by Tiffany Teske

AND THIS!:

Amazing Grace by Tiffany Teske

AND FINALLY this:

Bouquet by Tiffany Teske

Happy Dance?! Yes!! These are those moments that independent artists love. When someone who loves what you create finds you and wants to support your art making by owning your art. And the best part? She is thrilled with her purchase. Thank you so much for supporting individuals by buying original art :)

My Submission to Light Leaks Was Accepted!!

Road Trip by Tiffany Teske

I had so many good things happen to me on Saturday, that I have had to split up the posts...

On Saturday I received an email that this image was selected for publication in the next issue of Light Leaks Magazine. I am very excited to have been selected to be featured in such a wonderful Canadian magazine that is committed to analog forms of photography ("Photos MUST be taken using a "low-fi" or "toy" camera - meaning the body of the camera must be low-tech with a simple single element lens (Holga, Diana, and the like). We also like cheap Polaroid cameras. We do not accept images from LC-A, Lubitel, or anything digital."). The issue, #13, should be out in the coming weeks. The theme is Road Trip. I will keep you posted...

The guest photo editor, Aline Smithson, is someone whose blog I have been reading and enjoying. Check out, Lenscratch. And for the prude amongst you take a second look at her post for today, those images are not of what you think they are. Very clever!

Letters - Ottawa

This image was taken in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I have a thing for mail slots. And I also love to write actual, snail mail letters. In fact, I am overdue to write one to my grandmother... I am off to do that now.

This Polaroid transfer original is available for purchase on Etsy. It is 3x4" and comes in an 8x10" mat. Prints are also available.

Light Leaks 13 Submission

I just emailed my lastest submission to Light Leaks Magazine. Someday, I hope to appear in it's pages.... The theme is Road Trip. Submitted images must have been made with a toy camera or Polaroid camera. This is an image I made on SX-70 film with a Polaroid Land Camera back in 2001 or 2002. It is of my friend Mat, when he, my friend, Gaetane from Belgium, and I took a road trip to NYC. It is a bit mundane but truly captures the essence of being in the car on a road trip...

A Blast From The Past - Ottawa, Ontario

I have tons of Polaroid images that I have never scanned, so I try to go through and scan them from time to time. This is a personal photo, a self/group portrait of myself, my now husband, and our friends. It was taken after a party, which is why the walls look like a baked potato, and our friend had just returned from travels, and brought us these awesome hats. Just found mine the other day... this was taken in 2003 or so...

Town of Banff HomeGrown Art Show

Tonight we had a ball at the annual Town of Banff HomeGrown Art Exhibition. 48 local members of the community, ranging from amateur to well-known professional, gathered to show off their talent. I really appreciate the concept behind this show; it is open to all, no jurying, the more, the merrier! And when you have that many artists showing their work, it becomes a HUGE party... there were a couple hundred people there. The Town takes a small fee from each artist and then furnishes a spread of awesome food, desserts, and wine from local businesses. Yum yum!

My piece was in the main room with the food. I was happy to see it there, partially because it is a nice open room with good light and you can back up and view the work well, but also because I am pregnant so being near the food it important... My piece, titled "Visions of Banff" looked really good. The photo doesn't do it justice... I could not use a flash without glare, so I had to shoot it hand held without flash and it is a bit off kilter. I am going to write a post about the piece in coming days, along with a step by step tutorial. It is a photo quilt. Something new for me. I am planning to do a series of these quilts. I learned a lot while making this one, through trial and error, and I look forward to honing the technique.

Thanks to the Town of Banff for putting on such a fun family event where the residents of our community can shine!

Every Photo Tells A Story Feature

I stumbled upon a really cool blog as a result of my daily Google alert for Polaroid submissions. The thing about this search is that it brings up submissions opportunities for Polaroid images, but it also brings up sites that mention "Polaroid" and "submissions" on the same page of a blog. Such is the case with the blog "Every Photo Tells A Story". As someone who has written both professionally and personally, I love this blog! Nancy, the blogger, posts an image a day which is to be used as inspiration by writer's, artists, crafters, photographers... some of them have a written prompt, others are just the image. They include links to the artists blogs and info about them. It is a really amazing idea.

I joined the blog as a "Beloved Blogger" or "Follower" and was pleased when Nancy sent me a personal email, thanking me for visiting the site. She asked me submit an image for consideration on her blog. Today, I was the feature photographer on her site. You can check it out here... Thanks, Nancy!
